White Kaolin clay is one of the gentlest clays. Kaolin clay is also known as China clay, White clay, and Kaolinite clay. It acts as a mild exfoliant when used in a cleanser or scrub.
Kaolin clay has a very soft texture and is rich in “Kaolinite,” a type of mineral. It is suitable for all skin types, but it’s great for sensitive skin.
Kaolin clay has a neutral pH and is rich in silica dioxide. Compared to other clays (such as bentonite clay), Kaolin clay does not make your skin dry. It is gentle on your skin and makes it soft and healthy. That makes Kaolin clay well suited for people with dry, sensitive, and mature skin.
Some benefits of kaolin clay include:
1. Absorbs Oil
Kaolin clay has a very light and fine texture which makes it highly absorbent. Create a mix by adding some warm water to kaolin clay and apply to your skin. This will soak up excess oil on your skin.
2. Detoxing Properties
Silicon dioxide has detoxing benefits which allows Kaolin to draw out all the impurities from your skin pores. This includes dirt, grime, germs and various other pollutants.
3. Facial Cleanser
Kaolin is a much safer alternative to all those harsh cleansers available on the market. You can make a facial cleanser by combining Kaolin clay and colloidal oatmeal in a ratio of 1:2.
Add seven drops of lavender oil and mix all the ingredients together. Store in a glass bottle/jar.
To use: take a small amount of the cleanser and add some water to it and scrub your face for a couple of minutes. Rinse off using warm water.
4. Helps soothe skin irritations
Kaolin clay is a great help for skin irritations like bug bites or rashes. Being the gentlest of all skin friendly clays, Kaolin can be used safely even on sensitive skin and can help maintain the PH of your skin. It soothes sensitive skin and prevents rashes, redness, and breakouts.
You can make this Kaolin Clay face mask:
WHAT YOU NEED:
4 teaspoons kaolin clay
2 tablespoons green tea
4 drops of lavender oil
2 teaspoons aloe vera gel
Brush for applying mask
WHAT YOU DO:
Make some green tea and allow it to cool down. Place kaolin clay into a bowl and add two tablespoons of the cooled tea. Add in the essential oil and aloe gel and mix all the ingredients well using a teaspoon.
Apply the mask all over your face and wait for five minutes. Rinse off using lukewarm water. Once the mask is completely removed, splash cold water onto your face.
For best results, this mask should be applied once or twice every week.
5. Deodorant
Kaolin is often used for making deodorants due to its ability to soak up oils and sweat from underarms and neutralising body odour. Kaolin draws out toxic substances from our skin which helps keep underarms fresh and clean.
Making your own deodorant is really easy.
